How To Maintain An Active Lifestyle As A Small Business Owner
I’m very dedicated to maintaining an active lifestyle every single day of the week. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, you can find me at the gym working out with a trainer or taking a pool Pilates class. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, you’ll find me on my bike cruising through some of the most scenic areas in our country.
I enjoy every minute of my on-the-go life, but, as a small business owner, it’s also very difficult to find the time or energy to stay active.
I’ve developed a few tricks over the years that keep me committed to my workout schedule—maybe they could work for you, too:
Do what you love to do
If you find an activity you look forward to doing, you’ll never work out a day in your life.
I regularly go out on two to four hour rides with my bike group. We travel different routes all around Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania—sometimes traveling upwards of 50 miles per trip. Not only do I look forward to these rides, but they also influence my designs. It’s as if there’s a little camera in my head taking pictures of all the beautiful scenery I witness as I go past.
Set an appointment and stick to it
You’ve got to put yourself first when it comes to your health and well-being!
For my Monday, Wednesday, Friday workouts, I usually take a class or meet with a personal trainer. I set this time up as an appointment that I cannot miss. This way, I schedule other appointments around my gym time—making this a priority over everything else.
Make it non-negotiable
I’m actually the one in charge of my bike group for the Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday rides. If I don’t feel like showing up, then I’ll let a lot of people down. This is a non-negotiable for me. Even if it was a struggle to show up, I make it a priority to go. Besides, once we start riding, I usually start to feel so much better. Keeping my commitment to the group is what helps me push through and I’m thankful for it.
Feel good while working out
No matter what I’m doing—lifting weights at the gym or suiting up for a bike ride—I always wear my signature red lipstick. Looking good gives me a confidence boost and that confidence has helped me push through many tough workouts. Sometimes I’ll even wear my Whirlpool earrings for just a touch of elegance while I’m sweating it out. For the bike, I even designed a jersey for my ”team” to wear- it always makes me smile when I see everyone wearing my signature jersey.
This has been the formula that’s worked for me, but what’s worked for you? What do you do to stay active?
