4 Ways to Treat Yourself Right in 2017
Keeping a New Year’s resolution can be a lot of pressure. Most resolutions are to lose, stop, or eliminate something from our lives, but listen to how negative that sounds!
If you find yourself struggling with your resolution this year, here’s what I propose: make 2017 the year to treat yourself right. Doesn’t that already sound like a much better plan?
Here are a few of my tried-and-true methods that might help make treating yourself right a little easier.
Focus on eating healthier, but avoid dieting!
Dieting is often viewed as a chore—something we have to do but don’t want to. But this mindset often sets us up for failure. Instead, focus on slowly incorporating healthier eating habits into your everyday life. This could be as simple as eating more vegetables in each meal or choosing almond milk over regular full-fat cream for your coffee.
Find a physical activity you love
As you know, I love bike riding. I’m absolutely addicted! Not only has it kept me in great shape, but I’ve met some incredible people and found inspiration for my art through my bike group.
When you find a physical activity you love to do, it’ll be so much easier to stick with it!
Create a plan of action
If you want to make yourself a top priority, then you need a plan. For example, say your goal is to “be healthier,” then you’ll need to map out some milestones on how you plan on achieving this.
In this case, I would find a half hour each day that I can dedicate to doing an activity like meditating, going for a short bike ride, or taking a brisk walk around the block.
After you’ve set up small, quantifiable goals, make sure you reward yourself when you achieve them. But avoid rewarding yourself with food! Instead of reaching for a congratulatory cupcake, why not buy a stunning handmade necklace instead? The right jewelry will give you a confidence boost and serve as a reminder of what you’ve accomplished.
