The Vibrant Vitality of Orange: The Color Psychology of Fashion, Part 3
Whether we intend them to or not, clothes and accessories reflect our personalities, moods, tastes, and desires. This is why I always place a great deal of importance on dressing up.
And while wearing high-quality fashion conveys a certain message so do the colors we choose to wear. In fact, there is a whole world of color psychology and it certainly applies to our personal style choices. That’s why I’ve decided to dedicate an entire blog post series to the colors we use in our wardrobe and what they mean. Links to future posts will be added below once the post is published.
The Vibrant Vitality of Orange
It’s a color that’s nearly impossible to ignore. Whether it’s the dominant shade in a sunset, the allure of a perfectly round citrus fruit, or the pop of a marigold in a charming garden, the color orange demands attention. I often add splashes of orange to my handmade jewelry, which gives an extra splash of sparkle to any piece. Orange sapphire and drusy quartz are two of my favorite stones that incorporate this vibrant color into my work.
So, what is it about orange that makes this color so unique? Here are a few of the connotations you’ll convey while sporting this vivacious shade:
Energy and vitality
Our fiery yellow-orange sun has been a symbol of pure life-force throughout history. And since the color is commonly associated with the cosmic power of the sun, wearing orange exudes both energy and vitality. Wear this shade whenever you want to freshen up any outfit.
Creativity and imagination
Orange is the color of the sacral chakra, which is located in the pelvic area. This is considered the center of our being where new life is created. As such, this color is often associated with both creativity and imagination. While wearing this color, you’ll feel like there is no limit to what you can create and imagine.
Optimistic and cheerful
Again, because of the associations this color has with the sun, a sense of optimism and cheerfulness is often tied to orange. Imagine how you feel on a carefree sunny day—these feelings are what you’ll convey when adding splashes of this hue to your look.
Confident and independent
Orange is not a meek color by any means. Wearing a bold orange top is sure to draw some attention. And because of the boldness of this color, it creates an air of confidence and independence on the wearer. Even on a day when you’re not feeling very confident, wearing orange is like adding a bit of sunshine on a cloudy day—it’ll shed powerful rays of positivity on your look.
