The Serenity and Quiet Strength of Blue: The Color Psychology of Fashion, Part 4

Whether we intend them to or not, clothes and accessories reflect our personalities, moods, tastes, and desires. This is why I always place a great deal of importance on dressing up.

And while wearing high-quality fashion conveys a certain message so do the colors we choose to wear. In fact, there is a whole world of color psychology and it certainly applies to our personal style choices. That’s why I’ve decided to dedicate an entire blog post series to the colors we use in our wardrobe and what they mean. Links to future posts will be added below once the post is published.

The Serenity and Quiet Strength of Blue

Ask anyone what their favorite color is and chances are they’ll tell you it’s blue.  In fact, according to a study conducted by Dulux Paints, blue is the most popular color on a worldwide scale. And while I can’t say blue is my personal favorite, I do enjoy using it in my handmade jewelry.

Aside from its popularity, blue is a powerful color that evokes a sense of serenity and quiet strength like no other. This is one of the many reasons why I often use blue elements in my work. And, since this color is often associated with water, it should come as no surprise that my use of blue is often inspired by nature.

So, if you’re wearing a stunning cerulean blouse or a dazzling pair of azure earrings, here are a few of the feelings and emotions you might convey:

Serenity and peace

Whether it’s the turquoise glow of Caribbean waters or the deep reflective shades of a quiet lake, blue is known for providing us with a sense of relaxation and calm. Wearing this color is like keeping a piece of vacation with us wherever we go.

Loyalty and integrity

Many businesses use the color blue to convey a sense of trust and dependability. Perhaps this stems from the phrase “true blue,” or maybe that phrase came to be because of the feelings this color evokes. Whatever the case may be, blue is closely associated with loyalty and integrity.

Clarity and intelligence

Imagine you’re snorkeling in a crystal-blue ocean. You can easily see the reef, fish, and sea life through the water without a hint of debris. It’s this type of clarity that the color blue tends to convey. There’s a sense of clearness and sharp intelligence associated with this color.

Communicative and idealistic

Blue is associated with the throat chakra so it has ties with clear communication and idealistic thoughts and beliefs. Wearing blue in your outfit can convey a sense of expression and creativity.
